Out in the middle of Occoquan Bay, where the Occoquan River meets the Potomac, there’s a tiny little chunk of land called Holiday Island. This weekend it will host one of the largest raft-up parties on the Potomac river. This event has been going on for the last few years and it seems to get bigger every year. This year, the Road Ducks, Stormin’ Norman Band, and DJ Clark will be performing live, all day long on Saturday July 30, starting at 11AM.
This musical event is unique because it’s only available by boat. Starting Saturday morning, boaters from all over the river will drop anchor and begin rafting up all around the island, and music starts at 11AM. As Frank Brennan from the Stormin’ Norman Band said a few days ago, “The annual island party is this Saturday! If you don’t have a boat, you have a week to get one. If you don’t have a friend with a boat, you have a week to make one!”
For those unfamiliar with the location (38.623192, -77.227270), just head up (or down) the river towards the Occoquan, and turn into the little bay. The island will be hard to miss – it will be the one with a bunch of band stuff and really big-ass speakers. There’s really no bad location to pick for your raft-up, so drop that hook, crack open that beer, and enjoy a day of free music and boating!
