The Coast Guard announced that it will establish and enforce multiple security zones for the 59th Presidential Inauguration. They will enforce three temporary security zones in the National Capital Region for the 59th Presidential Inauguration, beginning at 8 a.m., on January 13 and ending 8 a.m., January 25, 2021.
The zones are:
- Zone 1 – Potomac River from Key Bridge to Hains Point
- Zone 2 – Anacostia River from Sousa Bridge to Hains Point
- Zone 3 – Potomac River from Hains Point to the Wilson Bridge
This pretty much makes the Upper Potomac above the Wilson Bridge a no-boat zone. They won’t take too kindly to violations of this zone, unless authorized by the Coast Guard Captain of the Port of Maryland-National Capital Region.
If you need to transit these waters, you need prior permission from the designated representative who can be contacted by hailing “Patrol Commander” via marine band radio, VHF-FM channel 16 (156.8 MHz). Coast Guard vessels enforcing this zone can also be contacted on Marine Band Radio, VHF-FM channel 16 (156.8 MHz).
More info is available on their website here. Good luck and see you all on the other side!
