As it turns out, the Potomac River has a number of historical sites along it’s banks. One of the most well known being Mount Vernon – George Washington’s home. This is a large mansion that sits on an entire plantation. Here you’ll find live action exhibits of how life was back in the early days of America George Washington’s tomb is also located on the property.
The wharf here is relatively new and well kept, but the channel is narrow so pay attention to where you are. All private vessels are welcome on a first come, first served basis, as space is limited. Wharf hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, April through October.
