Drink of the Month: Occoquan Prop-Killer

A few folks were sitting around the bar the other day, and somehow we got onto the subject of mixed drinks – imagine that! In the boating community, its a pretty reasonable assumption that most people love Painkillers. If you aren’t familiar, the Painkiller was invented at the Soggy Dollar Bar in the British Virgin Islands back in the 1970’s. Being that the main ingredient is Pusser’s Rum, it’s one of the signature drinks at Pusser’s Caribbean Grille in Annapolis and other locations world-wide. If you’ve ever been to the Annapolis Boat Show, you surely enjoyed one (or more) of these drinks.

After a bit of discussion, we had the hare-brained idea that we could improve on this age-old recipe, without all the weird creamy stuff. After a LOT of trial and error, I’m pleased to announce that we actually succeeded! The Pirate’s Guide to Boating, and The Spot at Belmont Bay where it was invented, proudly present to you the source of your next hangover – The Occoquan Prop-Killer!

Ingredients:

2 oz Rum (We like Capt Morgans, but play around with it)
1 oz Malibu Rum
4 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz Orange Juice

Combine all that love into a shaker with ice, and shake it baby! Pour into your favorite tiki glass, and add a Myers Rum floater, and some sprinkles of nutmeg.

The folks at The Spot at Belmont Bay were kind enough to provide this lovely instructional video, including their fancy serving method:
