Shiny New Things at Annapolis Powerboat Show 2026

Every fall, somebody on the river asks the same question: is the Annapolis show worth the trip? This year there’s a one-word answer floating at the end of Ego Alley: Askari. The Askari 65, an aluminum explorer cruiser with a range figure that reads like a typo (see below!), is making its world premiere at the 2026 Annapolis Powerboat Show (October 8-11), and it’s headlining a debut list deep enough to make this the most interesting show in years. Here’s what’s new, and what’s worth the hour’s drive up the road.

Headliner: Askari 65

Let’s start with the boat everybody will be crowding the dock to gawk at. The Askari 65 is an aluminum-hulled explorer cruiser, and its calling card is a genuinely staggering spec: 2,500 nautical miles of range. That’s not a weekend boat, that’s a cross-the-Atlantic-and-still-have-coffee-left boat. Aluminum construction, global-exploration DNA, and a world debut happening right there on City Dock. It is genuinely rare to see a premiere of this caliber at a regional show, and it alone justifies the trip.

A Show Rebuilt: Same Dock, New Map

The Askari isn’t the only thing that’s new. Here’s the story most folks haven’t heard yet: the show grounds look completely different this year. Annapolis has been digging up its historic waterfront for the City Dock Resiliency Project, the big flood-proofing job, and the construction sits right in the middle of the traditional show footprint.

The organizers didn’t cut the show loose. They hauled it out and refit it. The old A/B tents are gone for good, the displays spread out into Compromise and Randall Streets, and the whole layout got redrawn for the first time in decades. Even show veterans will be navigating like it’s their first season.

And the fleet got bigger, not smaller: more than 400 boats on display this year, the most the show has ever fielded in its 54 years. Line them up bow-to-stern and they’d stretch over two miles of dock. Trawlers, cruisers, downeast boats, center consoles, pontoons, fishing machines, and enough luxury yachts to make your insurance agent nervous. Most of them are boardable, with the factory reps standing right there to answer the hard questions.

More Premiers Worth Boarding

The Askari isn’t out there alone. The premiere list this year is deep:

• Monterey Elite 34 OB & Elite 23 OB, world premieres; outboard power with Monterey’s luxury fit and finish
• Tiara 35LS, an all-new Tiara making its Annapolis debut
• Hunt 56, built for the owner-operator who wants to run a serious yacht without hiring crew
• Omikron OT-60, the “journey is the destination” long-range cruiser
• Aspen C110, Aspen’s fuel-sipping, wave-splitting hull, scaled up
• Sportsman Heritage 251 and the Pioneer 250/270 Pelagic, family-friendly center consoles for Chesapeake duty
• Bayliner V22, 22.5 feet, a wide 8’4″ beam, and seats for 12
• Stoner Boatworks 23, a sharp blend of Palm Beach and Carolina styling
• New Axopar 38 and Targa models from East Coast Yacht Sales, and a full Brokerage Dock of pre-owned boats if new-build pricing has you wincing

Expect more 2027-model announcements before the gates open, the list keeps growing.

Four New Bars, Yes, Really

Here’s the part nobody expected: the show went and built four brand-new bars and social spaces into the new layout, including one named the No Wake Zone, which wins the name-of-the-year award before a single boat even docks. Grab a drink, catch some live music, and take a load off between tours. The whole show has shifted from “grind through the docks” to “spend the day on the waterfront”, and honestly, it suits it.

Pair that with the expanded shoreside marketplace (hundreds of exhibitors selling gear you absolutely don’t need but will absolutely buy) and Annapolis’s restaurants right up the street, and this is a full day out even if you never intend to buy a thing.

Education Front and Center

If you’ve been meaning to sharpen your skills, this year’s seminar lineup is the strongest yet, free sessions on cruising, navigation, weather, boat systems, safety, and Chesapeake-specific know-how. BoatUS On-Water Training is also running limited-enrollment hands-on courses with actual wheel time; sign up early, because those fill fast. Shopping for a boat? Book a sea trial on select models ahead of time, slots go quickly.

Bring the Kids (or Don’t)

Family day? There’s a Kids Corner with Chesapeake Bay activities, a Dockside Ducks scavenger hunt, and free admission for kids 6 and under. It’s a genuinely family-friendly event, though nobody’s stopping you from making it an adults-only day if the crew would rather not spend six hours admiring teak.

The Practical Stuff

Dates & hours: Thursday, October 8 (Preview Day) through Sunday, October 11. Thursday-Saturday 10:00 AM-6:30 PM; Sunday 10:00 AM-5:00 PM.

Tickets: ~$32 general admission, $45 Preview Day, $10 for kids 7-15, under 6 free, and a $22 military discount on Sunday. Buy in advance online, the Saturday morning line at the gate is real.

Parking: Park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Ave) and ride the free shuttle, which runs from an hour before opening to an hour after close. Heads-up for Saturday, October 10: stadium parking moves to the Board of Education lot at 2644 Riva Road, $20, cash only. Downtown garages fill up fast; the shuttle is the move.

Getting there from the Potomac: For most of us, it’s about an hour by car, easy day trip territory. But here’s our honest advice: grab a local hotel room and make a weekend of it. Annapolis in October is the East Coast boating scene at its best, rooms near City Dock fill up fast on show weekends, and nobody ever regretted staying for one more plate of crab cakes. Book early.

Bottom Line

A world-premiere explorer cruiser with transatlantic range, a rebuilt show ground, a record 400-boat fleet, four new bars, and the deepest debut list in years, the 2026 Annapolis Powerboat Show is worth the drive from the Potomac, whether you’re shopping for your next boat, your next gadget, or just your next good day out.
