Summer 2025 Fireworks Round-Up

It’s that time of year again, when we enjoy anchoring on the water, drinking maybe a bit much, and enjoying a good fireworks show. It’s no secret, the best place to watch a fireworks show is from the boat! This time of year, these events happen in rapid-fire succession, so we’ve put together a list of fireworks shows you won’t want to miss.

Mount Vernon, VA (June 27 & 28 at 9:30PM)
This is a 2-day event that ends in fireworks both nights. According to their website, you can relax and enjoy a fun-filled evening with your family that includes dazzling fireworks, musical performances, and a variety of 18th-century demonstrations. Again, just anchor out in the waters around ol’ George’s house for the best vantage point.

Colonial Beach, VA (July 3 at “just after dark”)
The folks in Colonial Beach typically put on a really good show. Best place to watch? If you are on the creek side, just look up! Interesting that they are doing the show this year on Thursday July 3. We are hoping that is a misprint, but that’s what they say on their website.

Washington D.C. (July 4 at 9:09PM)
This is the premier fireworks show, and why shouldn’t it be? I mean, it is your money right? According to the National Parks Service, the show will begin at the oddly specific time of 9:09PM on July 4. Every year boaters enjoy this massive show from the river. Of course there’s always a Security Zone, but we will publish that info when it becomes available so stay tuned.

Indian Head, MB (July 4 after 8PM)
The town of Indian Head really does it up for July 4, with food trucks, activities, live music, amusements, and more. The celebration ends in a rather large fireworks display that can easily be seen from the Potomac River. Just drop an anchor, preferably somewhere outside of the main channel, put on your anchor light and enjoy the show!

Tim’s II at Fairview Beach (July 12 after dark)
Tim is a legend on the river, and is known to put on one hell of a fireworks show. This year it will be on July 12 and we can’t wait. Take your water-hoopty down to Fairview Beach drop an anchor, and enjoy the great food and drinks (44 on the Shore!) at Tim’s II. Then head back to your boat and watch one of the most awesome spectacles on the river!

Alexandria, VA (July 12 at 9:30PM)
This year Alexandria celebrates its 276th birthday with live music and activities around Oronoco Bay Park, ending with a fireworks show that should start at 9:30PM. Boaters can anchor out on the river and enjoy a great show.

This is by no means a complete list of activities. Know of other shows? Drop us a line and let us know!
